There are people who would like the classic chair-look on their pieces. But you might also be interested in a little bit of avant-garde But how do you merge classic with avant-garde with classic designs? We also thought that it wouldn’t be possible. But Paulius Vitkauskas brings us the KU DIR KA rocking chair. It is a classic chair that you would commonly see in schoolrooms. But it has a twist to it. It would have five legs on each side, all of different lengths. These legs are arranged from shortest to longest. The shortest would be positioned in the outermost corners of the chair. The longest leg would be the one in the center. In this way, the legs are would provide the rocking motion to the chair. It’s a wonderful chair that could bring a twist to your living room. It comes in either red or black.

Speaking of different, Patrick Messier brings us a really different and modern take to the rocking chair. He made this in tribute to Sophie Fournier, his business partner and life partner all-in-one. He made it after the birth of their first kid. Sophie once said after she announced that she was pregnant that they would need a rocking chair. The couple looked high and low for the right rocking chair. They looked for those that would fit their standards for style and comfort. Since, they couldn’t find one, they Patrick decided to make one instead.

The MAMMA rocking chair is made from a piece of fiberglass. It’s design resembles a piece of ribbon that would be suspended in space. It has a special high-gloss urethane finish. The design is based on a grid that would be based in the Fibonacci sequence. So trivial yet so comfortable.

Do all rocking chairs have to have two curved pieces of wood attached to its legs? Not exactly right? The important thing is that it has to rock. It has to rock in motion and rock in style as well. Paco Capdell allows us a taste of a real rocking chair without the rockers. He brings us the Cuna Rocking Chair.

His design would make the use of two wooden squares that would act as the frame of the chair. Then he would have metal bars or dyneema rope that would allow the rocking motion of the chair. It was launched in Salone in the city of Milan. It will be made available to us by Eurotrend Furniture.

The Keinu Rocking Chair defines the rocking chair anew. In the advent of the minimalist designs, Ero Aarnio has come up with another chair that would be pleasant to the senses and the body itseld. The chair would be contoured in such a way that the body would reach maximum relaxation. He then upholstered the plastic contour with black leather. This rocking chair would make sure that you are relaxed while you are sitting. It does not put any strain on your posture so you don’t have to worry about an aching back when you get off the chair. You are surely going to have a pleasant ride on this baby. Erro Aarnio first made sketches of the Keinu rocking chair in the 80s. It has then been developed and refined several times and is now made available to us.

Another more contemporary and modern take on rocking chairs is brought to us by Ron Arad. There have been much difference in his work that would take our breath away. It is simple yet would definitely entice our senses.

Ron Arad’s almost abhorrence of the sharp right angles would make it perfect for this masterpiece. He call it the Voido. It is like the symbol for infinity that would be bent at the center. It is made of molded plastic. All you would need to do is t add some cushions or some pillows to it then it will surely take you on a safe trip to comfortability.

Reno Bonzon also brings us another comfortable piece that would surely help take us away to another place, a place of nurturing and peace. The Gaivota is said t be the most rewarded creation from Brazil. It has successfully combined ergonomics and aesthetics in one amazing piece. This piece has won the Brazilian House Prize and the Movesp Prize in 1988. It also was representative t the Biennial of Design in Sao Paulo in 1990.

The piece is a wonderful combination of design and balance. It contours to fit your body. And it would have an appearance that would be simple yet very inviting. If award-winning isn’t good enough for you, then I don’t know what is.

He has come up yet again with another contemporary design that he properly named the Rocking Chair. It would blend the antiqueness and the modernity perfectly.
